PLAN A SUMMER VACATION IN ANAHEIM

The West Coast is the best coast—at least when it comes to planning an unforgettable summer. Anaheim and the surrounding Orange County area check all the boxes for an epic vacation destination: idyllic weather, diverse entertainment and dining, and options for every budget. Get started with planning with some helpful tips for making the most of a summer trip to Southern California.

LOOK AT WHAT'S NEW

Southern California’s theme parks have an exciting summer in store for visitors.

At Disney California Adventure® Park, the reimagined Pixar Pier is scheduled to open June 23 with four neighborhoods representing favorite animated stories.

Highlights include the high-tech Incredicoaster featuring dazzling lighting and special effects, as well as a new Incredibles float for the Paint the Night.

Thrillseekers can catch an adrenaline rush on Knott’s Berry Farm’s new roller coaster, which suspends riders at the crest of a 96-degree drop.

HangTime is California’s first and only dive coaster, promising riders a free-fall sensation along more than 2,000 feet of steel track.

Those planning a visit to San Diego’s SeaWorld can be among the first to ride the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the park’s history.

Eel Time features twists, loops and serious air-time at dizzying heights of 150 feet and speeds over 60 miles per hour.

CHECK OUT SEASONAL EVENTS

The summer calendar is jam-packed with opportunities to have an only-in-Orange County experience.

In Buena Park, Knott’s Berry Farmannually hosts Ghost Town Alive, bringing visitors back in time to the Wild Wild West.

Guests become deputized citizens of Calico, Calif., as they interact with bandits and cowboys galore while helping local law enforcement deliver messages and decipher hidden clues.

Down in Costa Mesa, the OC Fair runs from July 13 to Aug. 12 with a thrilling lineup of food, rides, artisans and animals.

This year’s theme, “Free Your Inner Farmer,” celebrates the people behind our agricultural industry, from those who tend to and prepare food to those who love to eat.

Further south—but well worth the drive—is the world-renowned Festival of Arts annual arts show and Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach.

The latter, a mesmerizing showcase of living pictures, this year celebrates artistic pioneers with the theme of “Under the Sun.”

SQUEEZE IN SOME TIME AT THE BEACH

It wouldn’t be a summer vacation in California without spending some time in the sand and surf.

Orange County boasts 42 miles of coast, with each city promising a unique experience.

Huntington Beach plays host to the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing on an annual basis, while Laguna Beach’s coves and small waves make it ideal for myriad aquatic activities from stand-up paddleboarding to snorkeling.

Newport Beach is renowned for its surf as well as having one of the largest recreational boat harbors on the West Coast—perfect for boating activities like sailing, fishing, rowing and kayaking.

Visitors can also catch a whale watching tour that departs from Newport or Dana Point, which offers an opportunity to glimpse blue whales, humpbacks and more.
